Welcome to ManchVolley League
The MCAVL at the Derryfield School is a continuation of the long standing Manchester YMCA Volleyball League. As the league emerged from the shadows of COVID it was apparent that there was an expanding interest in the existing league. With an influx of new players, we soon realized the limitations of our venue at the YMCA. League members set out to find a new location, a location that would allow expandability. The Derryfield School graciously offered to allow us to relocate to their Holland Court Athletic and Wellness Center at 2108 River Road in Manchester. With the move came a state-of-the-art facility, brand new equipment and the new moniker, MCAVL.
Many of the leagues’ players are the familiar faces from the pre-Covid YMCA but we have added many new and talented players. We have carried over most of the old structure but have added little tweaks to the system that ensures that the teams and play are more competitive and balanced. Our coed players range from Yankee C-/AVP B to Yankee B-/AVP AA with the majority of players falling into the Yankee C,C+/ AVP BB, A range. The focus is fun, competitive matches with a focus on improving team and individual skillsets. The off teams referee matches with an emphasis on helping individuals clean up their game. All of this makes for improved players and more competitive matches.
The league is still a tryout and captain chosen coed team system. Night 1 of each session is an evaluation of committed players while the captains take notes and choose a 7 player team. Teams are announced the following morning. Those that were not placed on a team have the choice to be kept on a sub list. This helps everyone stay connected to the league. With an increasing interest in the MCAVL we have expanded from 5 or 6 teams to 6 or 7 teams and are expecting to accommodate 9 teams for that fall 2022 session. The cost to play a 10-12 week session is right around $100+/- and is based on a court cost to player formula.
